How to wear and carry a crossbody well
Strap length, placement and a few small habits that make a crossbody look intentional rather than accidental.

A crossbody bag is practical, but small adjustments are what make it look elegant.
Set the strap length first
The most common mistake is a strap that is too long. As a rule of thumb, the bag should rest at your hip bone, not below it. A shorter drop looks more refined and keeps the bag from swinging into things. Adjust it once, then check in a mirror from the side.
Choose the side that suits you
Wear the bag on the side opposite your dominant hand so reaching in is easy. If you commute, wear it in front in crowded places; the bag stays visible and secure.
Mind the coat
Heavy coats can fight with a strap. In winter, consider wearing the bag under your coat for security, or switch to a slim strap that does not bunch. In summer, the strap lies cleanly against lighter fabric.
Balance the outfit
A wide flat strap makes a strong graphic line across the body, so pair it with simple clothing. A thin chain strap is easier to layer with necklaces and scarves.
Keep the load light
Crossbodies are designed for essentials: phone, cards, keys, a small lipstick. An overloaded bag pulls on one shoulder and spoils the line. If you find yourself carrying more, a tote is the better bag for those days.
Convert it when you want to
Many crossbodies have removable or adjustable straps. Shorten the strap and carry it under your arm in the evening, or remove it and use the bag as a clutch.
Care for the strap
Straps carry the most weight and rub against clothes. Wipe them occasionally and condition them with the rest of the bag so they do not dry out or crack at the adjustment holes.
