A considered guide to gifting a handbag
How to choose a handbag for someone else without guessing, and what to do if you get it wrong.

A handbag is a personal object, which makes it a wonderful gift and a slightly nervous one. A little observation takes most of the risk out.
Look at what they already carry
Notice the bag they use most. Is it large or small, structured or soft, worn on the shoulder or across the body? A good gift usually sits close to the habit, with an upgrade in quality or an unusual detail.
Pay attention to colours
Look at the clothes in their wardrobe. People who wear black, grey and navy are often happy with a black or cognac bag. Someone who loves colour might enjoy a deep green or burgundy. When unsure, a neutral is a safe choice that still feels special.
Consider small leather goods
If you are not certain about size or style, a card holder, a pouch or a small wallet is a thoughtful and lower-risk option. It still comes in the same leather and carries the same care.
Think about their day
A person who commutes needs a bag that takes a laptop; someone who travels will use a weekender or a belt bag. The gift that fits real days is the one that gets used.
Ask someone close
A friend or relative can tell you a size, a colour they would never wear, or whether the person prefers gold or silver hardware.
Gift with an easy way back
Keep the receipt and check the return policy before you buy. At our atelier, unused items in their original packaging can be returned within the stated return period, so a gift can be exchanged without awkwardness. Including a short note that says so makes the gift feel generous rather than uncertain.
Presentation
A dust bag, tissue paper and a handwritten note go a long way. Wrap simply and let the bag be the surprise.
